“Bridging the Gap” is our 20-day Summer Enrichment Program where select students from the Center School can continue to receive their related services, comprised of counseling, occupational therapy, and language therapy. The emphasis of the CenterSchool summer program is ‘STEM for Kids: exploring Science, Technology, Engineering and Math.
Students will experience these fields through a wide range of activities that occur throughout their day, with an emphasis on activities taking place in science and computers. In science class, students will have a chance to perform experiments with a variety of materials reinforcing basic scientific concepts, while producing physical objects the students can take home, like a solar oven or non-Newtonian fluids. In computers, students will learn the basics of three-dimensional design and create physical objects through the use of a 3D printer. Finally, students will have a chance to design and program Lego robots during our afternoon activities.
Beyond this year’s theme of “STEM for Kids”, the summer program will continue to provide students and their parent/guardians with a camp-like atmosphere where they can find success that would be impossible in a public school or traditional summer day camp.
The principal objectives are:
- To provide a structured, safe, camp-like program that allows for learning, creativity, self-expression and fun.
- To provide a program that allows special needs students to continue their counseling, language, and occupational therapy related services.
- To help parents and guardians provide for their children’s behavioral and social needs during the difficult summer months.
2015 SEP will be: July 1-July 29, 2015, 12:45pm to 3:15pm. School will be closed on July 3rd, in observance of the holiday.
