When Your Child Turns 18: What Parents Need to Know About Benefits, Entitlements, Accommodations, Rights and Protections

Featuring the attorneys at Hinkle, Fingles & Prior, Attorney at Law

Regardless of your child’s disability, things change when he or she turns 18.  In this 90 minute program, parents will learn about government benefits and programs such as SSI, SSDI, and Medicaid; and how to apply for services from the Division of Developmental Disabilities (DDD) and the Division of Vocational Rehabilitation Services (DVRS); and how to access work or college accommodations through the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Guardianship and other options for protected decision-making will also be discussed. Most importantly, parents will learn how to weave supports and funding streams together to help students get ready for the world of work, college, and independent living, and to build a life that is rich and fulfilling.
