Enrichment Program

Community Action

Ongoing community service projects include activities such as collecting food for homeless shelters, providing cancer care for a child, raising money for children with AIDS, supplying victims of domestic violence with cell phones, participating in “Toys for Tots” at Christmas, and preparing luncheons for senior citizens.

Talent Showcase

A talent show, an art fair, choral performances at area nursing homes, publication and reading of students’ poetry at an annual “Coffee House,” and a desk-top publishing business are examples of events that showcase students’ talent.

Peer Tutoring

The Peer Tutoring Program provides an opportunity for students to work one-to-one with their peers. A student may provide academic as well as social support in a classroom setting. Students are paired based on strengths and weaknesses as well as complementary personalities. The tutoring experience enriches both students.

After School Activities

The Center School is proud to offer 4-H Clubs after school.  The participating students enjoy creating beautiful projects in Art Club, and making delicious recipes without cooking in the No-Cook Cooking Club, such as Ice Cream Sandwich Cake and Oreo Balls. The members of the Chess and Other Board Games Club have fun playing board games as well as using our activity room where they can play Pool and Foosball. The History Club members enjoy seeing historically relevant movies, in addition to having active discussions.  The Spanish Club members enjoy learning about the Spanish culture through discussion, movies, cuisine and dance.

Cooperation, good sportsmanship, working toward a common goal, building self-esteem, and leadership are some of the benefits of being a team member. Middle School students participate in intramural team sports. The High School competes against other private schools in basketball and softball.

Assemblies and Awards

Many programs are provided that focus on increasing general information, becoming environmentally aware, developing an appreciation for the arts, improving self-esteem, fostering achievement, nurturing good citizenship, and building social skills. Exposure to cultural activities supports a well-rounded education. Holiday parties, award ceremonies, traveling shows, and frequent rewards combine to make school a positive, motivating experience.

Middle School Student Council

Activities that generate school spirit and benefit the community are the focus of the student council which is comprised of students elected by their peers to positions of leadership. The council sells lunch products to students which simultaneously benefits students while funding service activities. They have organized efforts such as a coat drive for the needy, collecting food for a soup kitchen, and improving school grounds by planting flowers. The Center School Scoop, a periodical produced by these students, features current events in all classes, articles on students’ particular interests, and literary efforts. Examples of school spirit activities enjoyed by all have included hat day, shirt day (shirts with logos of favorite sports team), and a student/faculty volleyball game.
